Recently, Forbes Magazine featured a “sweet” small business on  Maui who is making a mark on the world in a big way. Lois Later Mark interviewed Mitzi Toro, The Maui Cookie Lady. Ali’i Kula Lavender is honored to be mentioned as an inspiring ingredient amongst other local businesses in her big moment.

How is Hawaii incorporated into your cookies and why is that so important to you?

I’ve lived on Maui most of my life. One of the things that makes Hawaii unique is its diverse agriculture. The rich volcanic soil and year-round sunshine make for a wide array of locally grown food. Sustainability is vital to Hawaii and it’s important to me to source locally as much as possible. Buying local and supporting local farmers helps ensure that food is always available. Our cookies use as many local ingredients as available. We have showcased locally grown macadamia nuts from Waihe’e Farms, lavender from Ali’I Kula Lavender Farm, Pineapple, Mango, Calamansi, Coconut, Lychee, Lilikoi Passion-Fruit, Hawaiian Sea Salts, Haleakala Creamery Goat Farmed Caramel and also local spirits from Maui Brewing Co and Koloa Rum Company.

The Signature Local Cookie is our Anuhea Upcountry Breeze, which is a collaboration with a well-known award-winning Hawaiian singer. Anuhea has lavender culinary buds from Ali’I Kula Lavender Farm, Hawaiian Salted White Choc Truffle, Island Calamasci Lemon, Maui Grown Salted Macadamia Nuts and is topped with a Lemon Merengue Reduction Drizzle
